2018 Fall Ball Registration

WUSA 2018 Fall Ball Registration

WHAT IS FALL BALL?

Fall Ball is WUSA's "off season" program that is designed primarily for training and development of softball skills to compliment our more competitive WUSA Spring Season. Unlike the Spring Season, Fall Ball is less structured and more casual, with the focus on skills development instead of competition. Official standings are not kept.

Fall Ball 2018 will feature the following:

  • New for Fall Ball 2018 will be one inning per game of girl pitch in our 9U division!  WUSA will once again offer free pitching and catching clinics this fall.  Please contact the WUSA Helpline (wusahelp@gmail.com) if you have questions regarding pitching in the 9U division.

  • All girls who register for Fall Ball will be placed on a team. There is no tryout to participate in the regular Fall Ball season

  • If your daughter has any potential scheduling conflicts due to other fall activities, please indicate those conflicts in the Notes section on the registration page. While we cannot promise that we can accommodate all scheduling issues, efforts will be made to avoid as many schedule conflicts as possible if those conflicts are identified in the registration process. Teams practice once per week allowing flexibility for girls with other fall sports activities. Each team will be assigned one 1 1/2 hour practice slot during the week in the evening.

  • Evening practices for Fall Ball begin the week of September 3rd. Games will begin on Sunday, September 9th, and continue each Sunday afternoon thru November 11th. Our goal will be for each team to play 10 games, weather permitting.

DIVISIONS OF PLAY:

Each WUSA player is slotted into a division of play according to her age. Division birth dates are set up according to USA Softball rules and are based on the calendar year: January 1 to December 31.

In the Fall Ball 2018 season, and continuing to the WUSA Spring 2019 season and all subsequent WUSA seasons, the league is implementing the following age requirements:

a) Beginning in the WUSA Spring 2019 season, all girls born in 2011 and later will play in the division that corresponds to their age as of December 31 of the prior year.  As an example, in Spring 2019, girls born in 2012 will be 6 years old as of December 31, 2018, and will be required to play in the 6U division.

b) Beginning with Fall Ball 2018, girls will be able to play in the division which they intend to play in the following Spring season, subject to the age requirements listed in 'a)' above.

c) Unfortunately, WUSA does NOT offer a 6U division during Fall Ball, however, 6U will be offered in the Spring.

d) These age requirements will continue in future years.

The WUSA Divisions of Play and the associated age ranges are the following:

DIVISION AGES BIRTH YEARS DESCRIPTION
8U 8 2010-2011 In this division, a coach will pitch to the players from a distance of approximately 27 feet using an 11-inch safety ball
9U 9 2009 This division will include a combination of girl pitch for one inning and machine pitch for the remaining innings, both from a distance of 35 feet using an 11-inch standard ball
10U 10 2008 This division will include a combination of girl pitch for two innings and machine pitch for the remaining innings, both from a distance of 35 feet using an 11-inch standard ball
12U 11-12 2006-2007 This division is exclusively girl pitch at 40 feet from the pitching plate to home plate; there is no machine pitch component. 12-inch ball.
14U 13-15 2003-2005 This division is exclusively girl pitch using a 12-inch ball and 43 feet from pitching plate to home plate.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED?

  • Each player will need the following equipment: glove,  batting helmet,  bat, and mouthguard

  • Other equipment is also recommended in some divisions including cleats, bat, and sliding shorts/pants. In the 9U, 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions, infield face masks are required for the pitcher and 3rd base positions and are recommended for other infield positions as well. Infield masks for the 3rd base position will be provided by the league and placed in each team equipment bag.

WILL THERE BE FALL BALL TOURNAMENT TEAMS?

Depending on interest, fall tournament teams may be formed at the 10U age level and above. More information about tryouts for these teams will be made available as details are finalized. In order to be placed on a WUSA 10U or 12U fall tournament team roster, players must be registered for WUSA Fall Ball and will be expected to participate on their assigned WUSA Fall Ball team, in addition to the fall tournament team. Fall tournament teams generally play no more than three to four weekend tournaments in total, beginning in late September or early October and ending in early to mid December. Efforts are made to identify Saturday tournaments and/or round robins in order to minimize conflicts with the Fall Ball schedule.

Team fees, in addition to Fall Ball registration fees, will be required for participation on WUSA fall tournament teams.
