2018 Spring Ball Registration

WUSA 2018 Spring Ball Registration

Welcome to the West University Softball Association registration for Spring Ball 2018.

Please read ALL of the following information carefully.

Mission:

WUSA regular season play is a Recreational League format that strives to strike an appropriate balance between competition and participation. In all divisions except for 6U, scores are kept, win-loss records are used to determine standings, and trophies are awarded for placement. Players are exposed to the concepts of playing to win, learning how to lose, and the role of a team player in a competitive framework. The league has participation requirements including all players rotating into the infield at least one inning per game. Summer tournament teams play in very competitive environments with a focus on winning. In all of our teams, we try to ensure fun and player development.

Divisions of Play

Each WUSA player is slotted into a division of play according to her birth date. Division birth dates are set up according to ASA rules and are based on the calendar year: January 1 to December 31.

The following registration changes/requirements will be implemented beginning the Spring 2018 season:

  1. The 6U Division (previously known as the Pixie Division) will be limited to girls that are either 5 or 6 years old as of December 31, 2017. Girls must be at least 5 years old on December 31, 2017 to play in the WUSA Spring 2018 season.
  2. Looking ahead to the WUSA Fall Ball 2018 season, Spring 2019 season, and all subsequent seasons, the league will implement the following additional age requirements:

a) Beginning in the WUSA Spring 2019 season, all girls born in 2011 and later will play in the division that corresponds to their age as December 31 of the prior year. As an example, in Spring 2019, girls born in 2012 will be 6 years old as of December 31,2018, and will be required to play in the 6U division.

b) Beginning with Fall Ball 2018, girls will be able to play in the division which they intend to play in the following Spring season, subject to the age requirements listed in 'a)' above.

c) These age requirements will continue in future years.

The WUSA Divisions of Play and the associated age ranges are the following:

Player Evaluations and Team Formation

WUSA uses an open draft process to form teams. All divisions except for 6U hold player evaluations January 13-14, 2018. These evaluations give all division managers the opportunity to observe all players for the WUSA Open Draft Process. All players MUST attend player evaluations in order to be eligible for the open draft. There are no make-up evaluations for players that are absent. Players who do not attend the evaluations are generally randomly assigned to teams at the end of the draft process. The 6U does not hold evaluations; players are directly assigned to teams

Uniforms

The league provides uniforms as follows:

  • 6U/8U/9U Divisions: League provides a jersey, a pair of shorts, and a visor. Teams will purchase their own socks.
  • 10U/12U/14U: League provides a jersey. Each player will need to purchase long softball pants according to colors assigned at the team meeting. Teams will purchase their own socks.

Volunteering

WUSA is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, and we need lots of help to make our league run. The success of West University Softball Association is based on a foundation of parent volunteerism. All families are expected to help out in various roles. One adult for each registered player is required to work one shift in the concession stand at WUSA’s South Campus fields.  Team jobs will be chosen at the Division Meetings (i.e. team parent, carnival, photos, social, etc.)

Special Requests

Please note that WUSA is not able to honor requests for carpools, best friends, classmates, assistant coaches, etc. For all divisions except for 6U, WUSA uses an Open Draft process in which managers are free to select any available player when it is their turn to pick a player in each round of the draft. In the 6U division, WUSA does attempt to honor classmate or friend requests. However, we are not able to guarantee that we can honor every request.

If your daughter has any potential scheduling conflicts due to other activities, please indicate those conflicts during the registration process. While we cannot promise that we can accommodate all scheduling issues, efforts will be made to avoid as many schedule conflicts as possible, if those conflicts are identified in the registration process.
